Below you will find important details about the upcoming Northwest Youth Football Season. We are extremely excited, as I’m sure you are, for football to get started! Rest assured that more information is on the way as soon as teams and coaches are finalized.

Team Formation & Opponents

The first week of practice will be used as an evaluation period to create competitively balanced teams. As we go through this process, we will do our best to honor coach and friend requests, but cannot guarantee it.

7th Grade will be playing teams from Ankeny, Johnston and Southeast Polk

Practice Days & Locations

Practices will start the week of August 21st on the fields west of the Northwest High School Stadium. Each practice will be 90 minutes and will run from 5:30 – 7:00 PM. NWYF issued practice jerseys should be worn for all practices.

• Week 1 practice schedule will start August 22nd and will be Tuesday – Thursday
  • Evaluations will be made Tuesday – Wednesday the first week. Teams will then be created by the NWYF Board, Grade-Level Admins and head coaches on Wednesday night and communicated thereafter by your coach
  • Tuesday – Helmet Only
  • Wednesday – Helmet Only
  • Thursday – Helmet and Shoulder Pads
• Week 2 practices will be Monday – Thursday. Monday will be Helmet and Shoulder Pads, the rest will be full pads (Helmet, shoulder pads and football pants)
• Week 3 practices will be Tuesday – Thursday and will be full pads. An optional 4th practice may be scheduled at your coach’s discretion.
• Week 4 and after practices will be Tuesday and Thursday plus one additional practice either Wednesday or Saturday (coaches’ preference on which day)

EQUIPMENT

Equipment pickup will be August 9th – 13th and August 16th. Sign up will be sent out soon.

GAME DAYS & LOCATIONS

Games will be on Thursday nights (when playing at Southeast Polk) or Sundays. Full schedule, including locations and times will be released in the coming weeks.

Other Notable Dates

• September 10th: Scrimmage
• September 17th: Week 1 Games
• October 15th or 22nd: Last Game of the season (specific date is based on whether a team has a bye)
